This is a pretty mean cover of that Gotye and Kimbra / Somebody that I used to know song. 5 people one guitar, though the guy on the far right possibly is probably a bit expendable..

*mean as in awesome.

Macklemore, rapper from Seattle, USA. Skilled at going fast. Would probably be an impossible song to do a ‘fill-in-the-gaps’ listening exercise on. I don’t know how many lyrics you can focus on when English is a second language?

Labrinth and Tinie Tempah, Earthquake.

A new video by a band  called Collapsing Cities, interesting perhaps as it takes you around Auckland a bit.

Lisa Crawley, great song.

This guy Liam Finn is NZ music offspring, and has a career of his own. His Dad and Uncle are the very famous Finn brothers in various bands, I may post some at a later date.

You have all probably heard that very catchy and overplayed tune of Gotye and Kimbra. This is not it, this is just Kimbra. She is from Hamilton, New Zealand.

This was a relatively popular song before I left NZ - Midnight Youth, Cavalry.

Fat Freddy’s Drop, Wandering Eye. NZ celebrities starring in this video; including Carol Hirschfeld and John Campbell (where he looks at the newspaper and then up and the person is in front of him) who are well loved news presenters. I am pretty sure you guys should know this song.

This is Nesian Mystic, a Polynesian/New Zealand sort of hip hop R+B group, but I don’t really think that describes them very well. Not the usual of those genres and not what you would really see everywhere I guess.

More from the Veils (see older posts). New Zealand singer, director and I know at least one actor is a New Zealander so very New Zealand music month, from all sides.

A free song - no idea what it sounds like but put together by Kiwibank and an NZ band. The link explains things.

"New Zealand Music."

Trying to only post this for the Month of May, otherwise known as New Zealand Music Month, where the idea is to nurture and promote homegrown NZ acts. Trying to post a mixture of stuff here, from the pop, to the slightly left of centre, to the not so widely known.

Scroll down beyond May and there is more Music posted, I feel it would be dumb to repost them, but it doesn’t make them any less awesome or any less part of NZ music.

I like this song: ‘(People like places) They change’  It has some beautiful lines, like ‘The girls like the seasons, change their names’

Also, ‘Pictures in magazines’:  ’and I’m scared like a frightened person, I get literal when I’m nervous, I’m just like those creative types you know’

Due to pride for my homies, I want to note I went through high school with both Folkcat and Harvey Warbanger (they had much more normal names back then), they have only gotten better over the years, I now genuinely enjoy them, xx.
